TOURNAMENT

In the 2022 edition, a total of 56 players of 25 different nationalities will compete, 24 in the qualifying round and 32 in the main draw. There will also be a doubles tournament in which 16 doubles partners will compete.

The Open Internacional de San Sebastián  thanks to Anabel Medina and Tennium, will bring the best women’s tennis to San Sebastian, which from September 25th to October 2nd, 2022 will host at the Real Club de Tenis de San Sebastian a trophy with prizes of up to $60,000 for its participants, becoming the first ITF $60,000 women’s tournament in the history of the Community of Guipuzcoa and one of the few to be held in Spanish territory.

LOCATION

The Real Club de Tenis San Sebastián is one of the best urban tennis clubs, offering the unique experience of playing tennis by the sea. Its impressive facilities offer tennis courts (indoor and outdoor) and hard and fast courts. At the Club you can enjoy 4 outdoor tennis courts, 2 indoor tennis courts and 4 hard courts.

The Club is located along the Paseo Eduardo Chillada and next to Ondarreta beach. Right next to the sea, the Donostia Club offers a wide range of sports activities.

ORGANIZATION

Who organizes the Open Internacional de San Sebastián?

ANABEL MEDINA

Former Spanish tennis player, winner of 11 singles titles and 28 doubles titles in the WTA professional circuit; double Roland Garros champion in doubles and silver medalist in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She is currently captain of the Spanish Fed Cup team.

She has directed the BBVA Open Ciudad de Valencia for 5 years, receiving ample support from both public and private entities, as well as Valencian society, players and the ITF.

TENNIUM

Tennium is a global tennis platform whose vision is to become a relevant force in world tennis by creating synergistic business lines integrated under one platform that brings together different parts of the same sport.

Headquartered in Barcelona and with a presence in Argentina, Belgium and the United States, the company is led by Belgian, Kristoff Puelinckx and former French tennis player, Sebastien Grosjean.

It currently owns the ATP250 tournaments in Antwerp (Belgium) and Buenos Aires (Argentina), as well as the Senior Masters Cup in Spain. Recently, it was awarded the management of the Conde de Godó Trophy, the ATP500 in Barcelona and has signed its first WTA in Argentina and Uruguay for 2021.

SUSTAINABILITY & CSR

The main objective of the Open Internacional de San Sebastián will be to develop actions linked to sustainability and corporate social responsibility, in order to ensure a greater commitment to the community.

Sustainability

  • Use of electric and hybrid vehicles to reduce CO2 emissions and combat climate change.
  • Creation of a guarded parking lot for bicycles and scooters; spectators who use it will receive fruit or water upon arrival at the tournament.
  • Encouraging the use of electronic ticketing through cell phones to promote the reduction of paper use.
  • Placement of recycling containers to promote environmental care.
  • Recycling of balls and strings used during the tournament.
  • Carrying out sustainable activities involving the players of the tournament.

Corporate Social Responsibility

  • Coordination with different schools and colleges in San Sebastian with the objective:
    – Children come to enjoy tennis during the week of the tournament.
    – Children participate in a clinic with the tournament players.
